Quick Update:
  • Arrived more than a month ago, then off to Perth again next week. ALONE. Hello, independence. You're five years too early!
  • Not to mention that I haven't posted my Sydney pics as well. I suck.
  • Stress level's through the roof. I haven't even worn all the clothes I bought there yet!
  • Starsky turned two last Sunday! He's officially a pubescent in dog years!
  • Vince's birthday on Saturday. Got depressed when I found out that my original gift idea wouldn't push through. :( I have to make up for it!
  • I won't see Kuya until I get back (he's in LA for his MLE Step 3), and I'll get to see my parents before I leave - all 11 hours of it.. and more than half of it I'll be in bed. They're arriving from the US at 12mn on the day of my flight. How sad is that?!
  • It really sucks trying to go shopping for winter clothes when it's summer season everywhere else. Gah.
  • Busy busy busy bee.

I think someone's been using my Yahoo! account 'cause I was YMed through the mobile thing earlier when I distinctly remember logging off the last time without activating the "I'm mobile" feature, and besides, I rarely log in anymore. Then I logged in just a few minutes to check out any weirdness, and I was disconnected 'cause I apparently logged in using another computer. What.

So if you've received any weird messages from me, please just ignore it. I really don't check YM anymore. Not even my Yahoo! mail.

I think it's time that I:
1. Delete that account and use my existing gmail instead. OR
2. Delete that account and create a new one for the sake of keeping my YM contacts.
3. Create a Facebook account. I did, a long time ago, but it's so defunct and unused it's sad.
4. Use Twitter or Plurk. Watcha think?

My computer illiteracy is so pre-mature. Isn't this supposed to happen when I'm 40? oh em gee i ain't cool anymore! -remembers the mirc and friendster days- Haha.

Okay, I know that shih tzus generally look alike, but if you've been around some for a while you'll start noticing that they're all unique and different, that there's something distinct about each one that separates them from the rest. Especially Starsky, 'cause of his brown eyes and brown nose, which are very rare traits for his breed (they usually have black eyes, and very rarely brown and blue).

But lo and behold, I can't get over this puppy I saw on the net! I googled "shih tzu" and came across Tashi. She looks sooo much like Starsky! I swear, except for the black eyes and black nose, I would've seriously thought it was Starsky. They even photograph the same!

Okay I know I tend to act like a mom when it comes to Starsky, but this is surreal.

// end randomness

I just got robbed of around P200 per payday since my first day of employment because my tax exemption the whole time was 0 when it should have been 25. I don't even want to know the exact figure 'cause I know that money could've bought me at least one pair of nice shoes.

I AM PISSED.

In other news. I'm being deployed to Australia for two months (see last post). Now that's comforting. Mababawi ko na yung nawala kong pera.

Bwiset pa rin!

Since GMA declared January 2 as a special non-working holiday and everyone here at the office already filed for a vacation leave on that date last year, eight - yes, eight - of my teammates decided to transfer their VLs to today. It feels so lonely! I'm the only person in the entire six-workstation space we have here. :( and because of the very lovely weather we've been having lately, everyone's decided to either sleep in and go to work late, consequently getting themselves stuck in traffic (probably).

And I still haven't eaten breakfast yet so I'm feeling grumpy. :|

Here at the office with just two other team mates. As for the other eleven, they're all enjoying their holiday break. Then the nightshifters from another floor decided to hold their Christmas party at the big conference room right next door (hello, working hours lang naman kasi dito).

Filed a halfday vacation leave today to do some last minute shopping. I'm still reeling from all the sleepless nights and dreading waking up in the morning when all I want to do is curl up in bed and sleep some more. :(

It's Christmas tiiiiiime and I can't feel it yet! Maybe later when I'm in a more festive mood. But right now all I can think of is the word SLEEP.

Christmas Wish List:
1. A one-bedroom loft or condo in or near Makati. Sigh.
2. A renovated closet and floor-to-ceiling shoe cabinet.
3. A Macbook.
4. A video camera. Gah I really want one.
5. A girlfriend for my dog. Spread the genes! :P
6. A new wardrobe. I'm obviously still trying to piece together my own sense of style.

6 days 'til nerve-wracking day,
9 days 'til doomsday,
18 days 'til the most wonderful time of the year.

Ugh. Head hurts. Can't sleep 'cause I haven't studied yet (yes, I'm aware that I've already graduated, but the dreaded five-letter word apparently still applies), but I can't study 'cause of this headache! :(

Siiiiiigh.

Gym.
Fact: last time I did anything remotely close to working out was in the first semester of third year college, for one of the few physical training (PT) days in Babble.

After two years of letting my lard grow to immense proportions, I've finally decided to commit myself to a healthier lifestyle by buying myself a pair of pricey cross-trainers (ClimaCools, you're so comfy you feel like sandals on my feet!) and taking advantage of my brother's free trial at Fitness First. The reason for buying an unreasonably priced pair of shoes is for me to feel more compelled to use them since they cost me so much money. Hehe.

And OMG my arms were just about ready to fall off last night while I was doing some weights. And the weight was just like... 25. Or 15. At one point I even went down to 2.5 'cause I felt so weak. @_@ but give me some credit! I only had salad and a tiny chunk of grilled dory for dinner! :P And a huge, tattooed guy with a bald head was carrying the same weights as I was so that certainly made me feel a lot less crappy about myself. Hehehe

Oh, and work is slowly starting to feel a lot like work so that's comforting. At least I don't feel that guilty now for being such a bum here. @_@

The La Union weekend trip was fun but super exhausting. Surfing totally killed my upper body, and I'm pretty sure that if I stretch my arms too much I would pull a muscle. @_@

I fell on my butt more than I was able to ride a wave. Hello, 5'10" girl trying to surf when the normal height of the surfers there was like, 5'2"! :P I want to enroll myself first in a gym before hitting the waves again. I don't think my jelly arms would survive the next surfing trip. Wheeeeee new hobby new hobby! :D

I can't wait for December! :)

The theme of our department's fashion show a la Project Runway is victorian, so I've been browsing through my dad's collection of classical music... And I think I've discovered my love for it. It's so calming and relaxing, and a far cry from the noise I've been hearing over the radio on my way to work every morning.

OMG isn't it way too early to be listening to classical? I'm pretty sure that when my dad was 21, he was listening to The Beatles and Peter, Paul, and Mary, not the Mantovani Orchestra or Strauss. Pretty soon I would probably be listening to old people's Broadway (I love Wicked, Rent, Avenue Q, Phantom, Starlight Express, and all the Disney musicals. I have yet to stomach listening voluntarily to Les Miserables and Aida while driving). @_@

In other news, I've fallen in love with Daniel Craig. <3 mainly because his eyes resemble Vince's when he's had more than a bottle of beer. Hehehe wow I have my own 007! :p

So I got back from my China trip last Tuesday, found out I got some REAL work early morning next day (and two meetings which ate up my entire Wednesday morning), and still exhausted from all the stuff we did in the land of the terracotta warriors and squat toilets.

But I'm not complaining. Lucky and blessed to have gone on one of the most amazing trips I've ever been to, not to mention all the amazing people I got to meet while we were there. :)

Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace, pandas, the Great Wall (I'm a true hero!), Big Wild Goose Pagoda (the leaning tower of Xi'An), Terracotta Warriors, city walls, Hot Springs, Nanjing Road (much much better than New York!), The Bund, CCTV Tower, Huangpu River cruise, 2C-18C degree weather, Silk Street, Quanjude Restaurant (oooh I got to taste the best authentic peking duck in the world!), Maglev train going at 301kmph...

Will post pictures on my Multiply over the weekend. :)

Most unforgettable quote of the trip, while we were shopping in Silk Street:
Chinese woman vendor:
Lady! I give you betta Louis Vuitton! Betta quality than that! -points to my Tita's wallet-
Tita: ... but this is real.

Hehehe oh well.

You jo-king me! Come on give me reasoh-nable pwice! Because you my friend I give you nice pwice!

Up next: La Union, surfing, and Kfam again! :D

Isaac Mizrahi's Luxury Guide to Recession Style
by Georgia Suter | October 9, 2008 2:26pm
New York Times

Celebrating the wonderful world of luxury is a little tricky these days. Which is why we tuned in to WNYC’s Leonard Lopate Show yesterday to catch Isaac Mizrahi and what were billed as his “tips on how we can all learn to have great style — at any budget.” Turns out Isaac’s as conflicted about economizing as we are. His advice for weathering the recession in style: splurge, darling, splurge!

1. Discounts Are for Suckers
“Never buy anything that’s on sale. That’s always junk. … You’re just buying it because it’s cheap.”

2. Shop Constantly
“If you need clothes, don’t go shopping.” The best purchases are serendipitous! “If you need an evening dress, a fabulous evening dress, you’re never gonna find one.”

3. Splurge on Shoes
“Honestly, it starts with the shoes.” Preferably some “giant fetish shoes.”

4. Splurge on a Hairstylist
“Go to the guy you can’t afford.”

5. Spoiling Yourself Is Worth It
“If you go once and buy something expensive, a) it makes you into a wonderful object; and b) it educates.”

Isaac Mizrahi is the author of the new book “How to Have Style,” published by Gotham Books. View a slide show of his new spring collection here.

Isaac Mizrahi, either you are ignorant of what's going on with the world or you're so elitist and rich that you can't sympathize with those who actually spend on a budget. To be honest, it sounds a bit disgusting. Dunno exactly why.

This coming from a man who designs for and sells clothes at Target. -shakes head-

I have a week to decide which pair of boots to buy for the China trip next week. It's effin cold there right now, and I still have a wardrobe to build for it that should last me for about five to six days (it's an eight-day trip, but I am completely hoping that I would get to buy some stuff there).

I saw these Adidas by Stella McCartney boots in grey-pink yesterday and immediately fell in love... And fell out of it when I saw it would eat up half a month's savings. It's super functional because of the insulation (hello, it's classified under Winter Sports!), but man.. I'm hesitant to spend that much on a pair of boots that I would wear for a total of six days. If I buy these, I should probably get a lot of mileage on them so I won't end up having buyer's remorse. Gah.

I also have choices in Zara, but I mean... they're Zara. I can still remember that line from the Harvard Business Review case study we had in PM that goes like, "It's meant to be worn ten times before it falls apart" or something like that. Totally not worth it. The boots in Charles and Keith look painful and cost as much as the ones I saw in Zara so I dunno. :(

... Help?

Yesterday, on my way home, there was an unusual group of about 10 or so motorcycles and all the riders pooling around something right outside the gate of Ayala Hillside Estates, which is a few meters away from our village gate 3. I was in a hurry to go home, and I'm not the one to slow down and snoop around at every commotion I see on the road, so I just kept on driving.

Just now, I received a message from my mom which a friend of hers in the village forwarded her as a warning:

From now on, AVOID PHASE 3 GATE EITHER AM OR PM. Last night, a guy was robbed of his motorcycle and shot to death near Hillside Gate! ALI (Ayala Land Inc.) refused to add lights along the path and removed guard posting at the outer gate!

A few months ago, it was BPI Capitol, near Gate 1, that got robbed. Now, this.

It's just weird that ALI, one of the biggest companies in the country owned by one of the richest families in the country, would refuse to install a few P500 light bulbs (well, I'm assuming they cost that much) along that road. It used to be well-lit, but for more than a year motorists would find themselves driving a few meters on that road in complete darkness.

-groan- I would now have to stand another fifteen minutes of pointless waiting in traffic just so I could go home. Maybe I should just drive really, insanely fast on my way home from now on? Ermph.

On a side note, Palin is more hopeless than Bush and Tina Fey on SNL for the win. :D

I drank meds before going to bed at 6:30pm last night to relieve what I thought was going to be a sure fever. All the symptoms were there: fatigue, headache, colds, sore throat...

Only to wake up to an excruciating pain in my abdomen. I skipped dinner last night 'cause I was still full from Kopi Roti Set B I had for merienda (4 Kaya toasts, two soft-boiled eggs, and an iced teh tarik; I only had Campbell's microwavable 98% Fat Free Clam Chowder for lunch, which explains why I had to eat a heavy merienda yesterday).

Oh God, the pain is so unbearable! :( Sana wala na 'to mamaya.

I'm a masochist. Sort of.

Barely slept (got too excited about the game), arrived in Araneta with Vince and his brother Voltaire at 9:45, waited for around four hours for the game to start, screamed my heart out until it got dry and held my breath until my chest hurt whenever the game got too close for comfort, pumped my fists into the air for every great shot and call (I hate you referee no. 29 - more on that later), and jumped up and down for every block Baclao made. I knew I should've bought that iamnonoy shirt. -_- Oh and after the game we went to S&R Congressional to do some groceries, and waited around 30 minutes just to check out our items.

And I only had 1 tall Mango Passion frappe and ham and cheese croissant from Starbucks, and a slice of Pizza Hut Super Supreme. Woohoo super suicidal.

Game Observations:
Referee No. 29.
I hope that the Atenean photographers got a good shot of this referee's face. He NEVER made a single call in favor of Ateneo. Every call he called against us was really bad. He forced Chris Tiu to sit it out for almost three quarters 'cause of the three fouls he slapped on him in the first half. Referee No. 20 had his moments, too. At least Referee No. 13 was fair. I think I should make a banner that says "Ref, magkano?" or "Luto!" and bring a fat marker to specify which referee's making all those bad calls.

Nonoy Baclao. I'm now watching the replay just to savor his final block on Maierhoffer. BOOM! Eat dirt you smug grasshopper! Can't wait to see more of that on Thursday.

gRabeh. He couldn't find his rhythm in the first half, and at that time I just thought, "We're doomed." But wow, pang-MVP nga talaga siya. Go Rabeh!

The 24 shirts the Blue Eagles were sporting before the game was a tribute to Black. That was his number when he was still playing basketball. Aww, how sweet. :P

Guys, bonfire na 'to! :D

Shit, pano sa Thursday?? :(
